Voting Post!

This is the Official Voting Post. You should post your votes in a screened comment here!

But first, a few things to mention (and please do read them, they are important!)...

Rules for Voting!

Voting will be done differently to how we had originally anticipated. Due to the complexity of creating a spreadsheet to run instant run-off voting on, and the fact that this is our first round and we want to avoid any unnecessary complexity for fear of hiccoughs, we will not ask you to rank your top three choices in each category. Instead, in each category, please list two (no more, no less) stories that you would like to see win. These votes will be given equal weight in our score sheet.

2) There will be a winner and runner-up in each category, and also a Judges' Choice.

We ask that you vote in every category. If you feel that you cannot do so (you don't feel comfortable reading a certain ship/genre, or you just won't have enough time), please post a comment here to let us know that. We know there are lots of reasons people might not manage to read all of the categories, and we're happy for people to vote in whichever categories they can manage, we just need to know so that we format our vote spreadsheet correctly!!

4) We ask that you submit all your votes at once, just to make it easier for us to enter them!

5) Voting closes at midnight (EST) on July 12th. Winners will be announced on the 14th (banners will be available at that time).

6) This is something about the general spirit of voting. Now, far be it from me or anyone else to tell you how you should approach voting, but here is something TNL does not expect you to do...

While these awards are all about acknowledging new and underappreciated authors, the way in which we did this was by having eligibility guidelines for nominees. The stories here now belong in these awards and are new and/or underappreciated. When you are voting, do not think that you have to necessarily give higher preference to a 'more underappreciated' story! If the story you think is best in the category is really popular, don't think 'Oh, I can't vote for that one, I have to vote for something more unknown, even if I like it less'. Obviously, if you want to make it a personal criteria that you're going to vote for something you'd never read before that delights you, then by all means do that. But don't think 'Oh, popular fics can't win, I'm supposed to vote for something less popular'. It's up to you to decide how to vote!

(Just thought this point was worth a mention!)

7) Mods reserve the right to disqualify votes for a number of reason: only voting for one story in a category, voting for three, not clearly specifying which fic you are voting for (guidelines below!), etc. So, if you're confused, please read through these rules a second time and then ask a question here if you still aren't sure!

Angel Mischa and tribunicianveto will be counting the votes and putting them in the spreadsheet, cross-checking data entry, etc. Any questions or concerns about voting or the vote counting process, just leave a comment and we'll get back to you!

9) You may vote for fics you nominated or seconded, but you don't have to! We won't be checking up on you! ;-) You may also vote for yourself!

10) Please do not vote anonymously. Those votes will be discounted. If you do not have a LJ account (or you would just prefer to), you can email me your votes at angel.mischa@yahoo.com

11) Do please pimp the Awards in their final stage, but also please provide a link to this section or the 'Rules and Regs' for newer people who may hurry to vote lest they miss a deadline or anything. We will love you for it!

To help make extra clear what we're asking with this different voting system, below is a sample vote!

Best SS/HG Romance

1) kestreladdams - Love in the Time of Wizards
2) kittenfest - To Have and To Hold

(stories and authors invented for the purpose of this post!)

As you can see, to prevent any confusion, we ask that you provide the category name, the author name, and the fic name. This is because some authors have two fics in the same category, some fics are in more than one category, etc. Your voting comment would be a whole list of these little sections.

For your info, we have fifty-two separate categories (inc. 'SS/HG romance', rather than just 'romance'). This sounds like an awful lot, but many of them have stories that appear elsewhere in the awards, so you can 'double up' reading there. The authors also almost all have stories running in the awards, so you will have read some of their work to begin with. Please remember that you do not have to read every single word of a fic to get a good idea of the writer's skill. If a fic doesn't grab you (or actively discourages you from wanting to continue reading – we all have different tastes), please don't struggle on with it and lose heart and give up on the awards altogether. Don't like a fic? Then it's not the fic to vote for! Move on to the next one. :-)

I hope all of this helps. Final Voting is now officially open, and the Official Nominees list can be found here. Any questions, just give us a shout.

I attempted to vote and received an error message that my post exceeded the maximum allowed. Should I break it in half?

yes, because LJ limits the length of a post.

Hon, you deserve a massive round of applause! Wowza for being the first one to vote. *squidges* I was afraid everyone would vote on the last day because the list is so long. You have given me hope!

You MUST vote for two nominees in every category. Currently, many of these votes will have to be discarded. Please delete this comment, re-read the rules for voting, and then repost.

Not a problem! Thanks so much for not being daunted coming in late and just diving straight in. :-D

Sweet! Nice job. Will get on the spreadsheet now then. We still have quite a few ties... there may be 24 hours of tie-break voting, at this rate! LOL

That's great news! How many people have voted so far?

Just shy of 20 people have voted so far! :-) I know of lots more who are still wading through the categories and will be voting soon!

Re: Final Vote

You must vote for TWO stories in every category. Please see either the most recent post (http://community.livejournal.com/tnl_awards/4548.html) or this section of the Official Voting post (http://community.livejournal.com/tnl_awards/4104.html#cutid1) for an explanation of the voting rules.

Oh, I know! Voting was actually going to go on until the 19th, but then my father decided to go and get married in Italy and I have to leave on the 15th, so the timetable got crunched. I know what you mean. Still, think most people managed a stab at voting in at least some of the categories, and that's the main thing! :-D
